We Do Bicycle Fittings!!

We are officially adding Fitting Services to our menu. Here’s a look at what we offer:

Bike Sizing ($75)
A basic assessment of body position on the bicycle. Includes adjusting saddle height and saddle position (fore and aft), as well as stem and bar position and reach.

Advanced Fit / Tri Fit ($175)
Includes a Body Geometry pre-fit analysis of flexibility, previous injury, and arch support requirements. Involves assessing and adjusting cleat position, saddle position, handlebar width, stem length, shift lever placement, and an evaluation of pedaling technique.

Mayor Healy’s Jersey City Dream Plan

On December 6^th 2012 Mayor Healy held a “loose” press conference/ presentation announcing the city’s new comprehensive bike plan. Being the only bike shop located in the downtown area, as well as avid cyclists ourselves, we at Grove Street felt an unquestionable need to attend.

Mayor Healy opened with the city’s anticipated plan followed by the input of other various organization representatives such as Bike JC and the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Healy announced the city’s plan to install a new network of 35.2 miles of bike lanes in addition to 19.5 miles of shared lanes that will be indicated with “sharrows.” The sharrows will be found in the neighborhoods where the streets are much too narrow to have dedicated bike lanes.

Along with the addition of these new lanes Healy announced other initiatives that the city will be promoting as part of their new program. Some of which include, but are not limited to, revisions being made to Jersey City’s bike ordinances as well as a bike rack sponsorship program. These additional initiatives are all being implementing to help work to the main goal of promoting healthy, fun, and most importantly safe cycling. “Cycling is an integral part of the city’s transportation system, and a popular recreational activity. Cycling is on the rise and it has become increasingly important to designate space on the streets, as well as to update the city’s laws as they pertain to cycling,” claims Healy.

Maps of the future bike plans were posted on a tri-fold canvas next to the presentation podium shared for all to view. After all speakers commented there was a premier of the city’s safe cycling awareness PSA presented to everyone via projector (link posted at the bottom of page) and then concluded with an extremely brief Q&A hosted by Healy.

All and all, this is a very positive movement in a much-needed area, steps in the right direction. We at Grove are all very excited to see these changes begin to be implemented and are all in favor of the movement.

The winter months are slowly creeping up on us, which is keeping our riding hibernating. The wind, rain, low temperatures, and sometimes snow can give any cyclist the winter blues.
